Honey For Good is an Asheville-based nonprofit dedicated to honeybees and the people who care for them. Our work falls under three words: conservation, education, and celebration.
Every year we bring the community together at the Asheville HoneyFest at Highland Brewing, a free day of honey tastings, local makers, live music, and a lot of bee talk.
We also host the Black Jar International Honey Contest, which honors beekeepers from around the world and judges their honey on taste alone.
The rest of the year, the work is closer to the hive. When a colony moves into someone’s house, we sponsor a rescue. The bees get a safe new home, the homeowner gets their wall back, and the beekeeper doing the work gets paid for it. We also maintain an observation hive at Claxton Elementary School, where students can watch a colony at work, and rooftop hives at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville.
We started out as the Center for Honeybee Research, and the bees have been at the center of everything we do ever since.
